Bitcoin Cash was created in the year 2017 by a process known as hard fork by splitting away from the original Bitcoin blockchain. This hard fork reflected a divergence in conceptual approaches to the initiative of increasing the network bandwidth of the blockchain. While Bitcoin implemented the so-called SegWit protocol, Bitcoin Cash proponents achieved the desired capacity increase by implementing other technical changes while rejecting SegWit. Today both currencies exist in parallel as separate entities with only a little ideological and technical alignment.
